Anti-Inflammatory Foods

A table of 100 anti-inflammatory foods is presented in approximate order of effectiveness, called “Anti-Inflammatory Score”. The specific number for this Anti-Inflammatory Score gives an idea of how effective each food is predicted to be. The scores with green backgrounds can be viewed as high scoring while yellows are a bit lower.

The other three scores provided are “Total Nutrition Score”, “Anti-Oxidant Score”, and “ORAC” score. For all four scores, the higher the score, the better.

“Total Nutrition Score” is the sum of all vitamins, minerals, proteins, and other positive nutrients.

“Anti-Oxidant Score” is the ability of the food to neutralize the bad effects of free radicals, which bolsters the immune system.

“ORAC” stands for “Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity”. This is a different way that medical researchers have evaluated the immune-strengthening properties of some foods. Because the tests are time consuming and expensive only selected foods have been tested this way.

For all scores green indicates very high, yellow high, and white background means it is beneficial, but not in the elite category.

For this table of 100 foods Serrano Peppers are number one, Broccoli is number 50, Swordfish is number 51, and Pecans number 100. All 100 foods provide some level of benefit for resolving inflammation, with the exact benefit varying from person to person.
